What do you feel when you see this image? Do you think it's real? Do you feel happy (probably not)? Do insults to the creator who made this come to mind? Or do you think it should be adapted?
The fact is, personally, I have so many feelings and questions about the pyramid. You see, I started this series about a year ago. It is (and continues to be) visual research into identity, bias, and visual aesthetics. Tools and concepts are being developed at such a rapid pace. Yet, the confusion remains the same, perhaps even more intense.
I look at this image now, and it stirs many questions. For me, it tells the story of a present that I lived as a middle-class Egyptian, now on the outside looking in, as a cohesive narrative woven from the biases of both man and machine. I am utterly lost in a realm of opportunities to observe, hopeless in reaching a conclusion that everyone else seems so certain about....
But what is legacy? And what is beauty? Are we biased against ourselves under the guise of contextual progress?
When we step back from history, we realize that traditions, ideologies, and visual biases are trends. Thus, any global model or idea about beauty is doomed to be met with incomprehension. The fact is, true beauty is intangible; it transcends mere temporary good looks. It is emergent, non-centralized, and often chaotic—true beauty is frequently overlooked by progressive attempts to impose order.
